My husband and I needed a quick escape, and George Matheson Park in Pembroke, Ontario, was the perfect spot. This small park along the Ottawa River has a tiny beach, a few trees, and easy parking—nothing grand, just pure peace. We spent an hour there, soaking in the calm and snapping photos. Here’s a glimpse of our simple couples trip, perfect for anyone seeking a nature break.
We arrived and saw the park’s sign, nestled among budding trees. It felt like a little hideaway in Pembroke, ready for us to relax.

A short stroll led to the Ottawa River, where a small sandy beach met the water. Trees lined the shore, and the river glowed in the spring sun. We stood there, hand in hand, enjoying the quiet beauty.

We noticed a tree with old beaver chew marks at its base, brownish and worn. It stood strong, a sign of Pembroke’s wildlife. We smiled, picturing a beaver hard at work.

The park’s trees formed a soft, green backdrop, simple yet lovely. It wasn’t a big forest, but it felt serene, like a moment to breathe together.

One tree caught my eye with bright green moss at its base, like a vibrant accent on the bark. My husband loved its charm, and it added a special touch to our walk.

Our favorite was a tree stump with weathered, swirling patterns, like a natural sculpture. We called it our “art find” of the day, admiring its unique beauty.

George Matheson Park is ideal for a short couples getaway. There’s no trails or big attractions—just the river, beach, and trees. Our hour there felt refreshing, perfect for Pembroke locals or Ottawa visitors. It’s a simple spot for Filipino-Canadian couples to enjoy nature.
